Centre of Excellence in Product Design & Smart Manufacturing (CPDSM) is associated with Department of Mechanical Engineering, MANIT, Bhopal. This Centre of Excellence is being developed to offer a unique platform for collaborative, consortium driven infusion of advanced technologies in the product design and smart manufacturing area, which is in harmony with the Make-in-India’ initiative of the Government of India. The Center will initiate innovative and top-quality education & research focused to industries on Design and Automation, Subtractive manufacturing, Advanced welding techniques, Additive manufacturing, Digital manufacturing, Industrial Internet of Things, Automated/Virtual Reality and Specialty materials. This centre will be helpful for the students in developing innovative ideas of the products on social, physical and ecological environments concerned and provide opportunities to the students to take live projects for their master’s and Ph.D. programs from the world of real life work. Since 2021, the center offers Post Graduate program on “Smart Manufacturing” to facilitate the culture of innovation and open engineering.
The center will cover the following activities—
- Multi-disciplinary research for addressing vital issues relating to the product design and manufacturing with special focus on central India.
- Collaborative research: To provide consultancy and technical support to different departments, organizations and industry in their product design and manufacturing related studies and activities.
- Organizing regular activities of state of art knowledge sharing such as conferences, workshops, symposia, lectures, skill development training programs.

The Dimension SST (Soluble Support Technology) incorporates the same technology as the original Dimension BST (Breakaway Support Technology) and therefore produces the same high-quality ABS and ABS plus models. The difference is that Dimension SST features an automated support removal process.
The designer simply removes the model from the system and places the model into an SST Station. An SST Station is an agitation system that utilizes hot water and a soap bath to automatically wash away the support structures. Essentially, the Dimension SST allows for "hands-free" printing.
The Dimension SST768 is network compatible and produces durable working models from ABS and ABS plus with the click of a button. Once the model is printed, simply remove the model from the printer, peel away the support and begin using the functional model.
